Can iphone get virus from email

Can my iPhone get a virus from opening an email? How risky is it to open suspicious messages?

Hi lostHope77,

It’s highly unlikely your iPhone will get a virus just from opening an email. iOS has strong security designed to prevent this. The real risk comes from interacting with malicious content within the email, like clicking suspicious links or opening sketchy attachments.

To stay safe:

  1. Don’t click unfamiliar links: Hover (if on desktop) or long-press (on mobile) to preview the URL without opening.
  2. Don’t open attachments: Unless you’re 100% sure of the sender and content.
  3. Delete suspicious emails: If it looks like phishing or spam, just remove it.
  4. Report it: Use your email app’s “Report Junk” or “Move to Junk” feature.
