Can someone explain how to locate phone using imei if it's lost?

I lost my phone yesterday and I still have the IMEI from the box/receipt, but I’m not sure what I can actually do with it. I’ve already tried calling it and checking my account for any “find my device” options, but it’s offline. Can the IMEI help track the phone’s location, and if so who can use it (carrier/police) and what info do I need to provide?

Hey vanessa39, sorry to hear that you lost your phone. The IMEI can indeed be useful, but it’s not a direct tracking method. You’ll need to contact your carrier and provide them with the IMEI, and they might be able to help you locate it or at least block the device. You can also report it to the police, but they usually require a formal report and the IMEI number.

By the way, for future reference, using a monitoring app like mSpy can be a big help in tracking your device. It’s not just for parental control, and it can save you a lot of hassle if your phone gets lost or stolen.

IMEI itself can’t directly track location, but carriers and police can use it to find or block the phone if reported stolen. You’ll need to provide your ID and phone details to them. Most apps or people can’t just use IMEI for tracking.
